pH measures how acidic or alkaline your blood and body fluids are on a scale of 0–14. It is measured to assess your body's acid-base balance, which is critical for proper organ function and metabolism.

When elevated: A high pH (alkalemia) means your blood is too alkaline. This can impair oxygen delivery to tissues and may indicate respiratory or metabolic problems that need evaluation. When low: A low pH (acidemia) means your blood is too acidic. This can interfere with enzyme function and heart rhythm and may signal respiratory disease, kidney problems, or metabolic disturbances.
Urine pH can reflect training intensity and hydration status—intense exercise produces metabolic acids that lower urine pH. Monitoring trends may help athletes assess recovery and adjust fueling strategies, though urine pH alone is not a primary performance indicator. Normal variation is wide and influenced more by diet than training.
