Autoimmune Tests

Autoimmune tests look for antibodies the immune system has raised against the body's own tissue. ANA is the broad screen for connective-tissue conditions, thyroid antibodies point to Hashimoto's or Graves' activity, and immunoglobulin levels describe overall antibody production. These are typically ordered to follow up joint pain, rashes, unexplained fatigue or a family history of autoimmune disease, and to monitor a known condition over time. A positive screen is a reason to talk with a clinician, not a diagnosis by itself.
